laevis: from Latin: l(a)evis = smooth (skin)

Type material and localities

Types: frog figured on p. 82, pl. 30, fig. 1 of the original, and noted to be in the MNHNP, but lost now. Type Locality: unknown.

Distribution

Native country records from Angola, Botswana, Cameroun, Centrafrique, Gabon, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Moçambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zaïre, Zambia, Zimbabwe. Limits are: NORTH: Sudan: Jabal Marrah (mts) (13°30'N, 24°E) — SOUTH: South Africa: Perly Beach (bch) (34°40'S, 19°31'E) — WEST: Nigeria: Rahama (10°25'N, 08°41'E) — EAST: Tanzania: Amani (05°06'S, 38°38'E).

Records outside native range from Chile, Portugal, France, Italia, Saint Helena, UK, USA.
