Etymology

petersii: in honor of Wilhelm Carl Hartwig Peters (1815-04-22 - 1883-04-20), member of the "Königlich Preussische Akademie der Wissenschaften" in Berlin, 1857-1883 director of the zoological museum, Berlin

Type material and localities

Syntypes: all thought to have been destroyed by fire in MBL; but ZMB 5831 reported as surviving syntype exchange (Bauer, Günther & Robeck, 1996). Type Localities: "St. Salvador", "Dondo", "Benguella", "Catumbella"", "Quibula", "Quindumbo", "Caconda", "Huila", "Ambaca", "Dombe", and "Cassange", Angola.

Distribution

Country records from Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Zaïre, Zambia, Zimbabwe. Limits are: NORTH: Zaïre: Lukuga, riv. ? (05°40'S, 26°55'E) — SOUTH: Botswana: Maun (19°59'S, 23°25'E) — WEST: Angola: Moçamedes (15°11'46''S, 12°09'08''E) — EAST: Tanzania: Turiani (06°07'48''S, 37°34'48''E).
